As with the last post - and yes, I've gotten lazy - I'll let the pictures (mostly) speak for themselves. I've had a hell of a good two days in London. A little something old, a little something new. Of course the British Mu features prominently here, but I also visited the Tate Britain and the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, which was the most fun I've had in a while. Visiting the Prime Meridian was more fascinating - and in an odd way slightly moving - than I would have imagined.
So - pics. First, we have the Thames, not looking ugly. Parliament, Big Ben, and the Eye.
Parliament again, with Richard I. A trite picture for London, but the light was just great that day, so everything looked really pretty.
Hey Johnny B - no need to pay consultants. This one is free... WCU's alternate slogan
(actually, in the Duveen Gallery at the BM)
And my trip today to Greenwich. What a great time. Got to go through Canary Wharf, which is such a different world, but then you end up here - another very different world than the rest of London. That's the Royal Observatory at the top of the (icy) hill.
I have no idea what this means. But I like it.
And - if you felt the earth move around 11:30 today, that's me on the Prime Meridian.
I think longitude shifted...
And, the Prime Meridian:
And, back to the British Museum for the end of my trip. A fitting end to a fantastic four months.
From the Nineveh rooms. Just gorgeous. The Great King in a lion hunt.
The Flood Tablet. Yup, just another day at the British Museum.
The Duveen Gallery - quite possibly my favorite enclosed space on earth. Or anywhere else.
And, the Great Court. Wow. Just wow.
And, this is what I found upon leaving the BM. Snow!! Very pretty, but a real pain in the ass and causing incredible chaos on roads, rails and airports across England tonight.
Hoping to get back to the States tomorrow. Wish me luck.
