I made a brief appearance at the Great British Cheese Festival today, brief because I still feel somewhat lousy, but it was the kickoff event of cheese week, so it's not like I could miss this, right? There were several big tents for British food and Welsh food (good), real ales (gooder) and of course, the Cheese Market:
This little slice of Valhalla (I would say Nirvana, but I think the Norse would appreciate a Cheese Hall more; plus I'm not sure that Heidrun, the divine beer-producing goat, wasn't somehow involved in all of this) offered free tastes of hundreds of different cheeses, which were then for sale. Yummy. This was my haul. It was too much cheese, and this shows real restraint:
So what we have here is a gorgeous Derby Red - really strong and a nice white Stilton with Apricots. Both cost only 1 quid, so they were a must. Then, we have the Collier's Welsh cheddar. We'll need a close-up of this cheese to appreciate the subtlety of marketing:
Yes, that's one good looking cheese guy, and it promises to be powerful welsh cheddar. I think this is subliminal advertising at its finest, don't you?
Now back to that middle picture. As you can see, I also bought a few yummy Welsh cakes (tasty) and for lunch, a steak and stout pie, which was pretty good, but not as good as you might have thought given how perfect that little pie looks. The other things is some veggie something. Haven't tried that yet.
I'm not sure I can eat that cheese... I really just kind of like the package.... powerful.....
Back to feeling crap. I'll certainly post pictures if I end up experiencing the evil that is (gasp) uber-socialized Obama-care, I mean Gordon-Brown-care.
