Pub diplomacy

I was asked to participate in quiz night at the Goat Major. Okay - it was after I asked what was going on and why it was so busy, but they seemed genuinely excited that I was a professor and had asked about playing. But this thing was serious, people - they had teams, with team names, special team tables, the whole nine yards. I think I may go back next Tuesday and give it a go. The good news is that three of the barkeeps at the Goat now know me, know my drink is Brains Dark, and it was a great, great time. Granted, I wrote very little today for my upcoming conference paper, but I feel that my pub diplomacy has made its mark. I figure it's only a matter of time before Obama calls, gives me some kind of thanks or recognition, because in my own little way, well, I don't like to use the word "hero" but I may have single handedly repaired US-British relations. No.... YOU'RE welcome. It was my pleasure.
