The coolest new scanning technology

No, I'm not even joking. Seriously - this was the awesomest thing I found yesterday.

Found the perfect tool for the ORCA database and the people behind it are incredibly nice and even keen to collaborate or at least chime in. It's going to come down to funding, but I had to link this - it's so freaking cool - high resolution 3D bone images using a structured light scanner.

What this means is scanning each bone - maybe whole skeles (not sure re. the technology yet) and being able to manipulate them in all dimensions. SO. COOL. Extremely cool. The downloads (which you have to register to view and download) blew my mind - I literally gasped at the technology because it is exactly what we need. So - fingers crossed that I can find someone who wants to collaborate on this. I want to buy a structured light scanning set-up. Okay, okay - I WILL end up using it to scan things that aren't just whale bone, but what a blast.

Here's the link if you're interested. The site is from Max Planck Inst. in Leipzig. I was hoping that I would have to make a trip to visit the facility, because I think the Max Planck Inst. would have awesome visitor ID cards, which I would then nick.
